Happy Birthday Crowdcube!

With catastrophic failures in the financial system and diminishing trust of big business it is hardly surprising that people are looking at other ways of borrowing, lending, investing and raising capital. Today is the first birthday of Crowdcube, the world's first equity based crowdfunding platform.

If you want to know more, take a look at http://www.crowdcube.com/infographic I love the way they've made investing and raising capital much simpler for people and I hope they go from strength to strength. I say that because I love the concept (and also because I have invested in them myself!)

Another innovative UK business using new technology is one that enables peer to peer lending. Zopa is turning 7 years old next week and I was an early customer in 2006 when I borrowed some money at a market beating rate to partly fund a new car purchase. Thanks to new technology, I was able to borrow money from a large number of ordinary people (whose investments are split into little packets that go to different borrowers to spread the risk). You can check out Zopa for loans and investing at www.zopa.com

I think there is a revolution coming but it will be a while before the big banks know or care. Will they become like dinosaurs, or will they change? I don't know but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens!
